Convenient solution for drop drainage lines

Although in many cases treatment of pollutants as close as possible to the source is preferred there are many situations where in-line, or end-of-line, treatment is more appropriate and this is where Ecosol's Net Tech (see here), RSF 1000 (see below) and RSF 4000 (see here) are often seen as more effective solutions.

It is here that our focus on solutions rather than products is evident. We always look to provide the best solution to your problem.

RSF 1000

Ecosol specifically developed the patented Rapid Stormwater Filtration (RSF) technology to overcome the limitations of traditional primary treatment systems such as trash racks and other poorly-designed litter baskets.

The RSF 1000 removes and retains solid pollutants from stormwater flows and can be installed either in-line or end-of-line. Designed using the same principles as our at-source RSF 100 (see here for details). The RSF 1000 has an independently-verified capture rate of greater than 95% of solids greater than 3mm although Ecosol has found that, in practice, even better results are achieved (refer to the pollutant removal efficiency table below).

The unit is installed in-line or end-of-line where there is a drop of 600mm or greater between upstream invert and downstream obvert levels.

The RSF 1000 treats 100% of the incoming flow and operates with little impact on the hydraulic performance of the upstream pipe system. The overflow by-pass is designed to continuously open and close, effectively reducing the likelihood of flooding.

The unit meets EPA and ANZECC guidelines, and the principles on which it is based have been independently tested at a NATA-approved facility. You can view the results here.

The RSF 1000 is made from durable and reliable materials that ensure longevity and safe operating for its expected life. Only the highest-quality, corrosive-resistant materials are used in the manufacture of all Ecosol units. For more information about materials used and their expected life, click here.

However, the flexibility of our approach means that if the RSF 1000 is not the most appropriate solution for your project you will most likely be able to use one of our other products, click here to learn more.

If you would like to store and use the valuable rainwater treated by the RSF 1000 then you should consider our unique fully-contained RST 7000 Rainwater Storage and Re-use system, that can be installed downstream of the RSF 1000 to provide an integrated in-line water treatment and re-use system.  The RST 7000 enables you to use the treated rainwater for watering gardens, in washing machines and equipment washdowns. Click here for more information on this exciting new product.

The RSF 1000 has been installed in many locations throughout Australia and overseas. To see a sample from our projects listing and read some case studies click here.

Solid pollutants conveyed in flows from the upstream pipe are filtered through the capture basket positioned directly below the upstream pipe invert. The filtered stormwater then continues down through the unit to the downstream outlet pipe.

As the basket approaches 90% full, the by-pass flaps begin to open in response to the incoming flow. Once the basket is 100% full, the pressure of the incoming flow forces open the by-pass flaps allowing the excess flow to enter the drainage system through the by-pass openings. Even when in by-pass, the captured pollutants are not remobilised and are retained, in a dry state, in the capture basket. When the flow ceases, the flaps return to their normal position.

The unique by-pass overflow system eliminates the risk of flooding without adversely affecting the inlet pit hydraulic performance.

Pollutant Removal Efficiency

The RSF 1000 has an independently-verified capture rate of greater than 95% of solids greater than 3mm and 60% of solids greater than 200µm. The composition and quantity of pollutants captured depends heavily on the catchment size, land use, and rainfall patterns but the RSF 1000 typically collects and retains the following gross pollutants:

The defining advantages of the RSF 1000 are that it:

  • Captures more than 95% of solid pollutants greater than 3mm and 60% of solids greater than 200µm;
  • Stores pollutants in a dry state, eliminating the potential for toxic fermentation (refer to FAQ for an explanation of dry and wet storage);
  • Does not re-mobilise captured pollutants;
  • Has a large storage volume;
  • Eliminates risk of flooding owing to its patented fail-safe by-pass overflow;
  • Has minimal head/hydraulic loss;
  • Can be installed quickly and safely and is suitable for use in existing pits; and
  • Can be safely and easily cleaned by street sweepers with no manual handling of pollutants.

    These advantages make the RSF 1000 so different and more effective than other comparable units available today.
